PACITA ABAD: SHE MADE SO MANY MEN ANGRY 36 YEARS AGO -- AND CHANGED HISTORY

PACITA ABAD: SHE MADE SO MANY MEN ANGRY 36 YEARS AGO -- AND CHANGED HISTORY On this day 36 years ago, Filipino artist PACITA ABAD made a whole lot of people, mostly men, very angry. In 1984, Abad was one of ten recipients for the Ten Outstanding Young Men Awards, a prestigious recognition for young men awarded by the Junior Chamber International Philippines. Before 1984, women were not eligible and no woman was even considered — until Pacita Abad. Today, Google commemorates the day Abad broke through gender barriers with a Google Doodle that pays homage to her distinct style and use of colors. A renowned artist born in Basco, the small capital of the Batanes Islands in northern Philippines, Abad traveled around the world, lived in six continents, and innovated a style of painting that uses the Italian quilting technique, trapunto. Trump White House Meets Its Match With Barstool Sports

Trump White House Meets Its Match With Barstool Sports Trump admits he regrets some tweets during this fratty, swampy summer, as nostalgia surges for Trump’s first underdog campaign and a more uncertain future looms. But unlike Fox News, the frat-boy blog turned media empire is known more for its dude content — “Man Vs. Wasp Nest - Who Ya Got?” reads one recent headline — and “Local Smokeshow of the Day” gallery of babe photos than for its political coverage. Barstool’s founder, Dave Portnoy, 43, began his first White House sit-down last week with an appeal. “Your son’s ...

Phillies Return From Layoff, Lose to Cole and Yankees 6-3 Philadelphia returned from a weeklong layoff caused by additional coronavirus testing with a matchup against baseball’s hottest pitcher, and Gerrit Cole won his debut in pinstripes for his 19th consecutive regular season victory to lead the New York Yankees over the Phillies 6-3. BY RONALD BLUM, AP Baseball Writer NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia had not taken the field since July 26. Jake Arrieta had not been on a mound for a game that mattered since last Aug. 11. "But that doesn't matter. This is a situation that’s been difficult for every team to deal with." DJ LeMahieu led off the bottom of ...
